Digital Heating

More comfort and energy savings through networked heating technology

In recent years, digitization has become one of the top topics in heating technology. Today, "digital heating", i.e. a heat generator with a digital interface, is already standard. However, the use of this interface is often still in its infancy. In the future, even greater potential can be achieved through the digitization of heating technology.

Nowadays, modern boilers are internet-ready by default and can be connected to the internet with simple plug-and-play solutions. Even for older models, most manufacturers offer retrofit kits. For all solutions, the issue of data security is a top priority for German manufacturers. They therefore rely on the latest encryption technologies and the highest security standards in the network infrastructure. For the user, digital operation offers advantages. They always have their system in view and can save additional energy. In rare cases of errors, the heating specialist can get involved and perform a diagnosis remotely.

In the future, digital heating technology will become even more important. For example, electricity from renewable energies is to be increasingly used for heating via the heat pump. Electricity from renewable sources is volatile, it is subject to fluctuations. By means of digital networking, the heat pump detects when a particularly high amount of renewable electricity is available and thus the most environmentally friendly and cost-efficient operation possible. This is realized by so-called Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS). IOther producers and consumers such as a PV system, a charging station for the e-car, a thermal or electrical storage and other consumers can be integrated into such a HEMS. As a result, consumers benefit from maximum energy independence.

The Federation of German Heating Industry organizes the Forum Digital Heating. The forum provides a framework for sharing these topics. The focus is on digitization and networking. The participants not only represent the most important players in the heating industry, but also manufacturers of those products, for example in the field of smart homes and energy management, across all sectors, with which heating systems will network in the future.
